PENTAGON UFO-hunters are still working despite saying that they had disbanded in 2012 and could make findings public every six months.
Such other world information has previously been classified and Pentagon staff will not be able to discuss the program, according to the New York Times.
However, last month a Senate committee report outlined that the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force was to report some findings to the public every six months, the outlet reported.
Despite some officials hope the program will provide evidence of vehicles from space, the main focus is to discover whether another nation is using breakout aviation technology that could threaten the country.
The predecessor unit, Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, was allegedly closed in 2012, Defense Department officials told the outlet at the time.
However, people who worked on the program said that the unit was still operational in 2017 and beyond, which the department later confirmed to the Times.
Former director of the Pentagon program, Luis Elizondo, told the Times that the new task force evolved from the AATIP.
“It no longer has to hide in the shadows,” Elizondo told the outlet. “It will have a new transparency.”
Eric Davis, who worked as a subcontractor and consultant for the Pentagon UFO program, told the outlet that sometimes examination of the materials had so far failed to determine their source and led him to conclude “we couldn’t make it ourselves.”
He also said that he gave a classified briefing to a department agency as recently as March about retrievals from “off-world vehicles not made on this earth.”
Harry Reid, the former Senator majority leader, also told the Times: “It is extremely important that information about the discovery of physical materials or retrieved craft come out.”
Senator Marco Rubio also told CBS that he was concerned about reports of unidentified aircraft over the country’s military bases.

The news comes just days after rare pictures emerged of the inside of Area 51 and reveal that a mysterious giant hangar has suddenly vanished.
The images were captured by private pilot Gabe Zeifman, who flew along the border of the base after receiving permission to pass through the highly restricted airspace surrounding it.
It is the third time Zeifman has been able to fly so close to the base, a highly classified Air Force facility rumored to house aliens and UFOs.
